2011 Calendars Published for AIBA

AIBA has published its confirmed event calendar for the year, covering all AIBA controlled events as well as all continental championships and multi-nation tournaments. The highlights on this year's calendar at international level are the AIBA Women's Youth and Junior World Championships in Antalya, Turkey, in April, the AIBA Junior World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan in July and the Men's World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan in September, which will be the first qualifying event for the London 2012 Olympic Games

RULES FOR COMPETITION MANAGEMENT

RULE 1. CLASSIFICATION OF BOXERS

1.1. Age Classification:

1.1.1. Men and Women Boxers between the ages of 19 - 34 are categorized as Elite Boxers.

1.1.2. Boy and Girl Boxers between the ages of 17 to 18 are categorized as Youth Boxers.

1.1.2.1. Youth Boxers are permitted to participate in Elite competitions as per rules

applicable to Elite Boxers.

Today we will provide the criteria for scoring a point during an Amateur Boxing Match.  The information provided is from the 2009 USA Boxing Rulebook Part 1 Article 7.  For more information please visit www.usaboxing.org.

107.7 Awarding of points

(1) Directives. In awarding points, the following directives shall be observed.

(a) Concerning blows.

i. Scoring blows. During each round, a judge shall assess the

respective scores of each boxer according to the number of blows

obtained by each. In order to have scoring value, each blow must

have the force of the body behind it, and without being blocked or

guarded, land directly with the knuckle part of the closed glove of

either hand on any part of the front or sides of the head or body

above the belt. Blows landing as described above are scoring

blows. Any blow landing as a result of a foul will not count as a

scoring blow. The value of blows scored in a rally of infighting

shall be assessed at the end of such rally and shall be credited to

the boxer who has had the better of the exchanges according to the

degree of said boxer’s superiority.

Junior Olympic Boxer -minimum age of 8, using actual birth date, maximum age 16


-The Junior Olympic program will consist of FOUR age divisions-

i. Bantam Division- Will consist of 8,9 an 10 year olds. Only
competition at the LBC (Local Boxing Committe) club/tournament level
is allowed, with the exception of non-advancing national tournaments.
Advancement to regional or national competition is prohibited.
*Bantam Division (local) 8-year olds can ONLY box 8 and 9 year olds at
LBC Club Events.
-The weight is ANY beginning weight with FIVE-POUND increments.  The
bout will consist of 3 One minute rounds with one minute rest interval
betwen rounds.
